PCN empowers less-privileged

By Fokansi Ogunyemi Most Supreme Gen. Apostle Segun Iyaomolere has empowered more than 100 members of PCN, Fountain of life branch, Iwaya, Lagos State. The beneficiaries which included widows, widowers, orphans, and less-privileged persons went home with various food items, such rice, beans, garri, yam, vegetable oil, semovita and other consumable goods. According to Iyaomolere, “extending such largesse to the needy has become part of my calling”. Supporting people financially, especially his church members and voluntary donations have kept the church members increasing. He urged wealthy ones, political and religious leaders to use their resources to support less-privileged and youths in the society, as such gestures could reduce crime in our society.

Change for better, Ikudehinbu warns Omoboye

Apostle (Dr.) Japhet Ikudehinbu (JP) has warned Minister-in-charge of PCN, Akoka branch, Most Superintendent Apostle Gen. I.T. Omoboye Ogungbamila, to change for the better. He gave the warning during the church’s  Golden Jubilee Anniversary. Ikudehinbu said: “If you’re no longer with PCN, let us know. PCN Akoka branch is not functioning like other branches. You have to live up to the expectations and make the branch function to avoid sanctions. He told the ordained members of the church that they will not gain promotion if the minister-in-charge did not obey the authority of the church. The branch’s founder, St. Esrom, appealed to Ogungbamila not to approve crusades from outside, as crusades in all our branches have been cancelled.

Coronavirus: 25,964 people test positive in Nigeria

By Grace Faloye On the 30th of June 2020, 561 new confirmed cases and 17 deaths were recorded in Nigeria According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, 25,694 people have tested positive to Coronavirus    9,746 cases have been discharged and 590 deaths have been recorded with 134,257 sampled collected so far in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Late Dele Odebiyi The Odebiyi family of Gbongan in Osun State has announced the death of their son, late Pa Rufus Bamidele Olaboye Odebiyi, after a brief illness. Pa Odebiyi, a journalist of repute and former Chairman of the Lagos State council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, was editor of Africa magazine, Lagos Weekend and the pioneer editor of Headlines, and also a lecturer at the defunct Times Journalism Institute, all of the old Daily Times stable. Pa Odebiyi died at the age of 77 and has since been buried. He is survived by his wife, Adenike Elizabeth; children, Mrs. Abimbola Kareem, Yemi, Olumide, and grandchildren.

Nigeria COVID cases now 25,133

Nigeria COVID cases have increased to 25,133, as the country recorded 566 new cases on June 29, 2020. According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, through its portal said that the total number of deaths by the virus is 573, while 9,402 patients have been treated and discharged. Nigerians in USA beg FG to stop installation of 5G

A group called Concerned Nigerians in Diaspora, living in United States of America, USA, has petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari,  to stop any attempt to install 5G technology in Nigeria, over health and safety concerns. The group in a petition copied the Minister of Health, Senate President, Speaker of House of Representatives, among others, in three pages petition, stated that it was reported that 5G technology which was originated from China could be installed in Lagos. According to the petitioners: ''We call your attention to the fact that Nigerians at this critical time do not need 5G on people’s lives. Bello said this at a forum organized by the Muslim Staff Association of Oshodi-Isolo LGA at the council's secretariat. According to him, "Good manners and moral values are the best thing parents should inculcate in their children. Especially mother in upbringing children. “During pregnancy, the mother's behaviour affects the virtuosity of the child.  Every parent shall be responsible for their children's misdeeds thereafter. “Parents should dedicate more time in guiding and teaching their children on the ways of Allah.”

Ehinmosan promises to revive Ilaje Culture

Ehinmosan revealed this during his discussion with the president of 'Egbe Omo Ilaje', Mr. Raphael Irowanu Iwamitigha, at Ori-Oke Alala, Ebute-Metta. He said, “My passion for the group is to make Ilaje move forward and be recognised in the country. I and the IPL are ready to support Egbe Omo Ilaje to give it recognition. Don't allow minors sit in vehicles' front seat — FRSC warns parents

By Sarah Anu-Oluwapo Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has warned parents not to allow children below 12 years to sit at the front seats of vehicles on the motion. An official of the commission, Marshal Anthony Adeyinka, stated this on road safety and to avoid road accidents. He said that any parent who allows his or her underage children to sit at the front seat would be arrested and prosecuted. He said: “This practice is so rampant especially on Sunday when they are going to church. Children who are below 12 years will sit at the front seat. “If you are above 12, make sure that you use the seat-belt when you sit at the front seat. “The belt is to save your life in case there is a road accident. The belt will hold you back and will not allow the airbag to choke you. To avoid being knocked down by vehicle at night, put on reflective colours such as white, yellow, and lemon, as these colours reflect in the night and enable drivers who are driving at night to see you.”

Sanwo-Olu signs domestic staff service bills to law

By Elizabeth Temitope Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu has signed into law Domestic Staff Service Provider Bill.  According to Hon. Moji Meranda, who is representing Apapa Local Government, the law would make it mandatory for providers of domestic staff to register with the state government. “The government would be able to collect and collate data of domestic staff in the state, monitor and control activities of domestic staff service providers, give access to their premises, sanction any provider who fails to comply with government directives. And renew certificates of the operators periodically. “This law will help to protect lives of all Lagosians. The government would be able to do background check on domestic staff being employed so that people can have confidence in who they are employing,” she said. He urged them to show civility in their operations. He gave the warning during his interactive session with LASTMA officers at the agency's headquarters in Oshodi. According to him, “Lagosians want you to be decent and corrupt-free LASTMA officers that will not collect bribes from motorists. Be respectful and courteous even when you are going to arrest an offender.” Some officers who spoke at the session appealed to the governor to assist them in some areas such as equipment, medical treatment, and insurance scheme to enable them to carry out their duties effectively.
