Lagos Task Force arrests 54 touts for extorting truck drivers
NO fewer than 54 persons have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Task Force, for extorting and harassing trucks and commercial vehicle drivers operating within Isolo, Mushin, Apapa, Mile 2 and Lagos-Badagry expressway areas of the state. This is coming as the Chairman of the Taskforce, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Adetayo Akerele, has highlighted the agency's resolve to put an end to the criminal activities of the hoodlums who specialised in waylaying trucks operators loaded with goods and imposing unlawful fines on them and also disrupting the smooth flow of goods and services within the state. Speaking on the arrests, Akerele, said: "This illegal ticketing system has been operating for far too long. We are committed to arresting and prosecuting anyone who imposes unjustified fines on trucks and commercial vehicles. These practices are not only illegal but detrimental to the state's economy."
