Energy crisis: Power supply fails to meet FG’s 5,505MW target
*Fuel shortage worsens nationwide *Diesel price hits over N800 per litre *As scarcity of aviation fuel hinders operations BARELY nine days into the contract-driven electricity market begun by the Federal Government on July 1, power supply through the national grid has averaged 3,773.72 Mega Watts, MW, at peak generation, indicating 31.4 per cent shortfall against the government’s 5,505MW target. The Federal Government had activated a partial Power Purchase Agreement, PPA, with generation companies, GenCos, for the supply of 5,505MW of electricity at peak generation and a base load of 4,893MW. However, checks by Vanguard, yesterday, on data released by the National System Operator, NSO, a unit in the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, on the first nine days of July showed that the market generated over 4,000MW once, on Friday July 8 when 4,102.70MW was recorded.
