Yuletide: Transport fares skyrocket
TRAVELLERS to various parts of the country during the Yuletide, may face difficulties, mainly due hike in transport fares, owing to shortage of both aviation and motor fuels. Aside the seasonal hikes, the situation has pushed both airfares and road fares to 100 percent and more on some routes. For instance, air fares from Lagos to any state in the eastern part of the country have astronomically risen from N65,000 a few weeks ago to between N120,000 and N130,000, while land fares hover between N20,000 and N25,000. The airfare is particularly interesting, as the airlines have not hiked fares, but the agents, who act as go-between, have increased fares. It was gathered that most of the airlines are fully booked for the season, but agents, are able to secure tickets for desperate passengers double the price.
