Kidnapped ex-NBA president regains freedom
Former President of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Mr. Okey Wali, SAN, kidnapped in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has been freed. Wali was freed, yesterday, two weeks after he was whisked away by gunmen around Obiri-Ikwerre interchange in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state to an unknown destination. The kidnappers had during the operation killed two aides to Wali, while three policemen attached to him sustained injuries and were hospitalised. On Friday, women from the victim’s hometown, Rumualogu, had staged a protest demanding his immediate release. However, yesterday, news of his release filtered in, triggering jubilation in Rumualogu, a source said. At press time, the condition for release of the former NBA was not clear, whether ransom was paid or not. Contacted, police in the state said they were not aware of the release as such development has not been reported to any police station.
