Oshodi-Isolo LGA tasks Mkts  leaders on cleanliness TO ensure markets in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area are free from environmental hazards and outbreak of epidemics, the Special Adviser on Environment, to the council boss, Hon. Yusuf Adesanya, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Abiola Oladipupo and Environmental officers charged the market leaders to keep their markets clean always. The advice came during the council’s representatives meeting with Oshodi market leaders at Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji Modern Market, Kairo, where deliberations and consensus were reached on how to make markets in Oshodi clean. SINCE Nigeria returned  to civil rule in 1999, there has been ceaseless calls for autonomy for the 774 Local Government Areas in the country. Although, the 1999 Constitution recognised local governments as the third tier of government with provisions that gave the councils partial autonomy, the aberration of having a state and local government joint account has worsened the financial state of the councils. Some governors were accused of spending allocations that were accrued to the councils which has made it difficult for some local governments to pay their workers salaries. In some states, council workers are owed several months arrears of salaries. It is therefore not surprising that many Nigerians are clamouring for both administration and financial autonomy for the councils, to enable its authority be accountable to the people at  the grassroots rather than political god fathe

HEALTHY LIVING Panic as Lassa Fever spreads to many states ...death toll increases By Joseph Temidayo Don’t eat rat, don’t touch rat, don’t eat any food touched by rat, store food in sealed containers and wash hands with soap after visiting toilet, shaking hands before eating. These warnings came from the Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu to the public, to reduce the menace of Lassa Fever. According to him, the deadly disease is caused by contact with food or household items contaminated with rodent urine or faeces. Since the disease returned January this year, over 200 victims have died, among the over 1,700 affected by the virus, including health workers. That was the reason, Ihekweazu is warning public to avoid contact with rats and keep their food covered from rats.  Ihekweazu in his statement disclosed that many Lassa Fever cases were confirmed in Edo, Ondo, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Ebonyi, Anambra, Benue, Kogi, Imo, Plateau

PCRC Area F commissions buildings, launches Calendar, gives awards to members

Police Community Relations Committee By Idowu Ajigboteso AS part of its efforts to support the police in rendering effective service to society. The Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC Area F, Ikeja recently commissioned a multi-purpose building for police. The committee also honoured some of its members that have contributed immensely to its progress. The awardees are General Overseer, Goodnews Miracle Bible church, Archbishop George Amu, Chief Ogbuefi Kelvin, Mrs. Taiwo Atobatele, while Joseph Igbalajobi and Mr. Kadiri were given posthumous awards. In his welcome address, the Chairman of Area ‘F’ PCRC,  Rev. Johnson Olatunde, explained that the committee was established to foster a relationship between police and society. Also, the committee provides information for police to ensure a secure society. He said that PCRC members report to police what is happening in their respective areas. We assist police to repair their vehicles and even fuel the vehicles when necessary
