Police, LASTMA chase away residents scooping diesel from fallen tanker

TRAGEDY was averted in Apapa, Lagos, after a team of policemen from Area Command, Apapa and officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, succeeded in chasing away some residents of the area and onlookers that gathered to scoop diesel from a fallen tanker at Liverpool area of Apapa.  The tanker fully loaded with diesel had fallen off the bridge at Liverpool, mid day, spilling its content on the road and blocking easy flow of traffic, which resulted in a gridlock that lasted for some hours.  The incident saw residents of the area and passersby rushing to the scene to scoop the inflammable contents without considering the associated risks. Police, complainant killed as mob set suspected killer ablaze

  ANGRY mob, weekend, set  ablaze an unidentified suspected killer of a Police Constabulary and a complainant in Evwreni community, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, while on mission to recover a stolen vehicle. It was gathered that the deceased Constabulary Policeman, Solomon Ughere, allegedly attached to the JWC section of the Nigeria Police at the Ughelli Area Command was detailed among other officers to recover a suspected stolen vehicle parked on the premises of Living Faith Church, aka Winners Chapel, located at Evwreni community. Police, bandits in gun battle

...As many killed, others injured Police operatives in Zamfara State, weekend, engaged bandits in a gun battle at Gada community in Bungudu Local Government Area of the state, where many of the hoodlums were killed and several others ran away with gun shot wounds.   The bandits, wielding dangerous weapons, rode on several motorcycles, invaded Gada community, killed eight locals and rustled many cows. Spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar said they were able to chase the bandits, killed many while several others ran away with gun shot wounds.   He said they retrieved 10 rustled cows and some sheep, adding that only six locals were killed by the bandits. Police, agitators' clash worrisome —SRG

THE Social Reform Group, SRG, has condemned Monday's outcome of a protest by Yoruba Nation agitators in Ojota, Lagos, reinstating the need for a state policing system, as a way of curbing excesses from federally controlled security agencies. National Coordinator/Convener of the group, Dr. Charles Oludare , in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kayode Fasua, condemned the use of gunshots to disperse peaceful protesters by policemen, as reported, saying such should be condemned by all peoples of good conscience.  The statement reads: "The police standing between us and chaos should not be landing all of us in chaos.
