How national grid collapse triggered widespread darkness
•Power supply restored to affected areas — TCN NIGERIANS were thrown into darkness, yesterday, as the national grid suffered its second national grid disruption in 2025. It was gathered that some Southern states, including Lagos and Abuja did not have supply for a greater part of the day. The Nigeria National Grid, in a brief statement on X (formerly twitter), stated: “There was a grid disturbance before noon today. Parts of the country experienced an outage. Further information shortly.” The checks indicated that the partial collapse was caused by the stripping of the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330KV line. National power grid supply dropped by 68.3 percent from 4,109.56 Megawatts as of 11am to 1,302MW as of 12pm. The grid data posted by the National System Operator, showed that as of 11am, the largest power producer, Egbin Power had 617MW on the grid, but recorded zero production an hour later. Also, Azura-Edo IPP which generated 420MW as of 11am also dropped to zero an hour later...
