A Catechist, his wife and five others were, weekend, reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen in three separate attacks on Governor Samuel Ortom’s village and other communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. It was gathered that the marauders invaded Tse-Ortom, Hirnyam and Semaka communities in an unprovoked attack that left several persons injured. According to a source in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, one of the victims was killed at Tse-Ortom, two in Semaka, while four others who included the Catechist of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Hirnyam and his wife were murdered by the invaders in Hirnyam village. He said: “In their usual pattern, the herdsmen shot the victims in the three separate attacks on Friday and after killing them, they also used cutlasses to cut them like animals. Twelve security operatives, including seven personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have been killed by bandits operating in the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State. Director, Public Relations at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Olusola Odumosu, who disclosed this in Abuja, said they were “killed alongside five others by a sister security agency and local security service.” According to him, the personnel who were attached to the Kaduna State Ministry of Mines were ambushed and killed by bandits while on official duty at a mining site in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.  The sad incident reportedly took place on Monday, January 9, 2023, at about 10 am at the Kuriga mining site in Birnin Gwari.
