Power Outage: Awoyaya community begs EKEDC for new transformer

Image
Residents of Awoyaya in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, have called on the management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC, to rescue them from unending breakdown and repairs of its faulty transformer. They lamented that the development has severely crumbled business activities in the area, forcing them to rely on generators as their main source of electricity, while constantly billed monthly. One of the residents  identified  Folashade said: “Frankly, we are fed up with the palliative repairs of the transformer. These measures have not brought about the needed solution. This is totally unfair. The transformer in question has been serving this area for a very long time, when about 20 percent of the present population lived here. “What we need is a replacement, because each time they come to repair the transformer, it normally does not work for more than two weeks. Notwithstanding, we are been billed monthly regardless of the blackout which is not fair in its entirety.”    Reacting, the G

Yoruba'll be at war for 100yrs if..., says Bisi Akande

Image
FORMER Interim National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Bisi Akande, has said that the Yoruba may be at war for 100 years if Nigeria breaks up.  Speaking at the inauguration of a project by Adebayo Adelabu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in Ibadan, on Monday, Akande said those calling for a Yoruba nation should have a rethink. The former governor of Osun said the Yoruba breaking away from Nigeria may lead to bloodshed and an avoidable civil war “that would further decimate the people.” “Those agitating for a Yoruba nation should have a rethink. This country must remain united to save it from war. Yoruba will be in war for another 100 years if Nigeria is allowed to break.” While calling on those seeking a Yoruba nation to bury the idea, Akande said Nigeria is a product of war. Federal Government Colleges (unity schools) are under the ministry of education. Asked to comment on the allegation, Adamu told TheCable that his ministry does not handle such programmes. He said instead, the office of the vice-president and that of the ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development should be asked. “I think you should try to verify this by asking ICPC to give you the evidence, or by asking the Office of the Vice President that was handling school feeding before, or by asking the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development,” Adamu told TheC

Falana writes Buhari on N94trn unremitted to Federation Account

Image
The Alliance for Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond (ASCAB), a coalition of 70 labour and Civil |Society Organisations (CSOs), says it has discovered N94.3 trillion which was not remitted to the Federation Account. In a letter dated September 28 and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Falana, interim National Chairman of the coalition, said the unremitted money can fund the national budget for more than eight years. The group maintained that “revenue leakages” have shown that the federal and state governments have the funds to ensure better welfare for the people, and as such, ASCAB will start campaigning for another increase in the minimum wage next year. “ASCAB rejects the argument of no money to provide basic goods for the masses. The wealth of Nigeria, as measured by the GDP, is now three times higher than it was in 1998, but the minimum wage is only worth half of its value then, and at least eight states have yet to fully pay the legislated N30,000 that was agreed to be paid
