  By Grace Faloye The Nigeria currency, Naira, yesterday, appreciated to N462 per dollar in the parallel market.  According to  naijabdcs.com, the live exchange rate platform of the Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), the parallel market exchange rate dropped  to N462  per dollar from N476.3 per dollar  last week Friday, indicating N14.30 kobo appreciation of the naira. However, the naira yesterday was stable at N385.67 per dollar in the  Investors and Exporters (I&E) window.  While Pounds Sterling was stable at N513.78k. The volume of dollars (turnover) traded in the window increased by 19 percent to  $14.37  million from  $12.09  million last week Friday.

Nigeria records 143 new infections, as confirmed cases rise to 54,008

By Iyabode Ishola YESTERDAY , Nigeria recorded 143 new cases of Coronavirus; bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 54,008 According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, 403,347 samples were tested so far; while 41,638 Coronavirus patients have been successfully treated and discharged, as active cases now 11,357 and 1,013 deaths. The 143 new cases are reported from 18 states- Plateau (35), Kaduna (21), Lagos (19), FCT (13), Ebonyi (9), Adamawa (7), Enugu (7), Katsina (7), Edo (6), Kwara (5), Osun (3), Anambra (2), Kano (2), Niger (2), Ogun (2), Benue (1), Borno (1), Sokoto (1)

Messi gives conditions to join Man City

Naira drops further to N476.6/$ in parallel market

The Nigeria currency, naira yesterday depreciated to N476.6 per dollar in the parallel market.  According to naijabdcs.com, the live exchange rate platform of the Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), the parallel market exchange rate rose to N476.6   per dollar from N476 per dollar  Monday, indicating 60 kobo depreciation of the naira. Similarly, the Naira yesterday depreciated by one kobo in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for the window rose to N386 per dollar yesterday from N385.99 per dollar on Tuesday, translating to one kobo depreciation of the Naira. The volume of dollars (turnover) traded in the window dropped by 63 percent to $14.47 million from $39.09 million on Tuesday.

Truck driver dies during sex with prostitute

Homicide Unit of Lagos State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, is currently investigating the circumstances behind the death of a truck driver, who died in a brothel during a SEX with a prostitute. The 32-year-old truck driver, Wuyi Jackson, who works in an oil company in Ajah had gone to Ijegun depot in Satellite Town to load petroleum product when he decided to have drink at the hotel located at Oluti area of Satellite Town. It was gathered that after parking his truck at the depot where he was supposed to lift the product, he retired to the hotel with some of his friends at about 10:pm. After taking some beers,  he reportedly negotiated with one of the prostitutes to spend the night with him. While Wuyi was with Gift in one of the rooms that he became unconscious and later died before he could get medical help. NIGERIA Currency, naira yesterday depreciated to N476 per dollar in the parallel market. According to  naijabdcs.com, the live exchange rate platform of the Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), the parallel market exchange rate rose to N476 per dollar from N475.7 per dollar Monday, indicating 30 kobo depreciation of the Naira. However, the Naira yesterday appreciated by one kobo in the Investors and Exporters (I&E) window. Data from FMDQ showed that the indicative exchange rate for the window dropped to N385.99 per dollar yesterday from N386 per dollar on Monday, translating to one kobo appreciation of the Naira. The volume of dollars (turnover) traded in the window dropped by 443 percent to $39.09 million from $7.20 million on Monday.

YESTERDAY, Nigeria recorded 252 new cases of Coronavirus; bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 52,800. According to Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, 383,130 samples were tested so far; while 39,964 Coronavirus patients have been successfully treated and discharged, as active cases  now 11,829 and 1,007 deaths. Adeboye, ECWA president reject CAMA

Chloroquine kills Coronavirus in early stages – NAFDAC D-G

Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has revealed that chloroquine can kill coronavirus at early stage. She further stated that remdesivir, made by Gilead Sciences Inc, has also been shown to kill the virus at late stages. The NAFDAC boss however noted the cost for treating people with chloroquine cheaper than remdesivir. While remdesivir cost $2,500 to treat an average patient, chloroquine only cost $10. She also noted West African nations like Ghana, Togo and Senegal have embraced the clinical use of chloroquine for treatment. Adeyeye disclosed these during a virtual press conference on Tuesday in Abuja. She said: “In the cells, in the lab, remdesivir and chloroquine killed covid-19. At what stage would they be more effective? We didn’t know at that point. Abiodun Otete for burial September 5

Mother-Celestial Abiodun Otete, who died at age 56 on Saturday August 15, would be buried on Saturday September 5 at Ibara, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State. According to her burial programme,  on Thursday, September 3, 2020; there will be wake-keep service for her at 2B Market Lane Shogunle, Lagos. On Friday, September 4, her remains will be lying in state at Ibara Akungba. On Saturday September 5, she will be buried at Ibara Akungba after burial service. Her death has attracted many people, including residents of Sogunle community, members of APC, members of Celestial Church of Christ, Hephziba Parish, Sogunle to her residence at Adeyanju Street, Sogunle. Coronavirus: Lagos Health Commissioner tests positive

Prof. Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health FOLLOWING a spike in the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country, the Lagos State Government, yesterday, reiterated the need for residents to strictly adhere to standard safety protocols to mitigate infection of the virus in Lagos, which is the epicentre state.
