2 killed as cultists invade community
Gunmen believed to be members of a cult group reportedly invaded Ikem community in Etche, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, yesterday, where they shot six people with two feared dead. It was gathered that while two people were feared dead, four of the victims were in critical condition. A source in the community disclosed that efforts by police to rescue the situation failed. The source added that the cultists operated freely for over two hours notwithstanding that a police Division was 10 minutes away from the community. The source said: “My community, Ikem Etche under Okehi Division is on fire. Cultists have invaded the place. Six persons shot, two in critical condition.” However, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Divisional Police Officer in the area has mobilised to the scene to find out the situation of things.
