Zamfara: How Mattawale became lone non-reelected governor

Mattawalle contested the governorship election on the platform of the APC but lost the keenly contested poll to Dauda Lawal of the PDP. Lawal polled 377,726 votes to beat Matawalle, who scored 311,976 votes. Mattawale was elected on the platform of the PDP in 2019, but he defected to the APC recently amid complaints by PDP faithful in the North-West state. Adamawa is the remaining state that has a first term governor, Umaru Fintiri, seeking a fresh mandate. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the Adamawa governorship election as inconclusive. Fintiri was leading the APC flag bearer, Senator Aishatu Dahiri Binani, before the INEC paused announcement of results.
