A Magistrate's Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has remanded a member representing Etche/Omuma federal constituency in the National Assembly, Ephraim Nwuzi, in prison custody. Nwuzi, who is seeking re-election on the All Progressives Congress, APC, platform, was remanded, yesterday, following his arraignment by the Police for allegedly inciting violence over the coming elections in a trending video. Chief Magistrate, Amadi Amadi-Nna, ruled that the suspect be remanded for 10 days pending outcome of investigation by the police into the alleged offence. The charge preferred against him include treasonable felony, conspiracy, inciting violence, promotion of communal crisis and conspiracy. The 2023 general polls, the seventh democratic exercise since return to civil rule in 1999 begins with Presidential and National Assembly election on Saturday February 25, and ends with Governorship and State Assembly elections on  March 11. The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yabuku, has repeatedly assured Nigerians that irrespective of the attacks on its offices across many states of the country, the commission will go ahead with the polls. The electrifying campaigns of the leading candidates across the country created enthusiasm among the populace who rushed to get registered as voters. However, the question now is whether or not the enthusiasm, which the citizenry displayed during enlistment as voters, collection of Permanent Voters cards, PVCs, and in following the campaigns especially on social media will translate to huge voters’ turnout on Saturday.
