Gunmen kill 2 policemen, injure 3 others in Rivers

Gunmen have killed two policemen and injured three others in Rivers State.

The incident happened on Monday night around Mbodo Village, Aluu Community, Ikwere Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the victims were on a stop-and-search operation when the assailants swooped on them and gunned them down.

It was gathered that the killers were driving in a car and stopped by the police operatives, but the criminals on stopping opened fire on the officers mounting the road.

It was learned that two of the cop died at the spot, while one other who had bullet wounds were rushed to the hospital 

Confirming the development, yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, said the command has opened a full scale investigation into the incident.

Agabe said: “Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, promptly visited the crime scene to assess the situation firsthand. 

“The Commissioner has directed a comprehensive investigation into the incident and reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators are identified, apprehended and brought to justice.”
