Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays


THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government through  a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani. 

The minister, who congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter, urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. 

He reiterated that the goal of the government remained taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity.

Insecurity: Amotekun, Agbekoya warriors move into S-West forests

FOLLOWING the rising wave of kidnapping in Kwara and Kogi states, Agbekoya warriors have moved to some villages in Oyo State to flush out terrorists hibernating there. Similarly, the South West Amotekun commander, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, yesterday, promised to strengthen security across the zone and its forests. Speaking after its meeting in Ibadan, the Agbekoya Farmers Association also expressed deep concern over the spate of insecurity challenges in Nigeria, particularly the recent incidents in Kwara, Kogi, Kebbi and Borno states. We await A’Court judgment on Ibadan convention — PDP Dep Nat’l Publicity scribe

THE Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Hajiya Farida Umar has said that the judgment of the Federal High court in Ibadan validating the Ibadan PDP convention, which led to the emergence of Taninu Turaki led executive in 2025, shows that the court can be seen as being unbiased aligning with the fact and law that led to organisation of the convention. She noted that what was most important is the Appeal Court judgment, where the party had gone to, urging the justices of the appellate court to do the right thing just as the lower court did. “The most important thing that we are waiting for now at the PDP is  the Appeal Court judgment. We called on the Justices to do the right thing as the Ibadan court has done its own,” she said.
