JAMB: Rite Foods to reward seven brilliant undergraduates with N35m

IN a major boost for academic excellence and merit-based education in Nigeria, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in partnership with Rite Foods Limited, will tomorrow honour seven outstanding undergraduates with a total of N35 million at the maiden edition of the Academic Excellence Recognition Award Ceremony in Lagos.

The award ceremony, scheduled for June 30, 2026, is designed to celebrate exceptional academic achievement and encourage a culture of excellence among Nigerian youths.

Each of the seven beneficiaries will receive ¦ 5 million for emerging as the best-performing admitted candidates during the 2025 admission exercise, having recorded outstanding results in both the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, and their respective universities’ post-UTME or screening processes.

The initiative, sponsored by Rite Foods Limited and coordinated by JAMB, is being hailed as one of the most significant private-sector interventions aimed at rewarding academic distinction and inspiring future generations of scholars.

According to JAMB, the beneficiaries emerged through a rigorous, transparent and merit-driven selection process. Six of the awardees represent the country’s six geopolitical zones, while the seventh recipient is the highest-performing admitted candidate living with a disability.

The winning students are drawn from seven institutions across the federation, reflecting the national spread and inclusiveness of the programme.

The institutions include the University of Lagos (South-West winner), University of Uyo (South-South winner), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (South-East winner), Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (North-West winner), University of Maiduguri (North-East winner), and Federal University of Technology, Minna (North-Central winner).

Notably, the University of Lagos distinguished itself as the only institution to produce two award recipients, with the beneficiary in the category for candidates living with disabilities also emerging from the university.

Education stakeholders have described the initiative as a timely intervention capable of reinforcing the values of hard work, diligence and healthy academic competition among students at a time when Nigeria is seeking to strengthen the quality of its human capital development.

Among the dignitaries expected at the ceremony are the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, vice-chancellors of the awardees’ universities, heads of tertiary education regulatory agencies, principal officers of higher institutions, development partners, corporate executives, students and media representatives.

Also expected are the executive secretaries and chief executives of key education regulatory bodies, including the National Universities Commission, NUC, the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE.

The awards signal a growing commitment by both public institutions and the private sector to recognise and reward excellence, while encouraging Nigerian students to pursue academic success as a pathway to national development.

The maiden ceremony is expected to set a new benchmark for academic recognition in the country and further strengthen efforts to place merit, innovation and educational achievement at the centre of Nigeria’s development agenda.
