FG declares Thursday, Friday public holidays


THE Federal Government has declared  tomorrow and Friday, March 20, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-il-Fitr, which signifies the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan.

The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, extended warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The minister in a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani, urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were emphasised during the holy month. 

He also called on all Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation.

While wishing the Muslim faithful a joyful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, the minister encourages citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged in society.

“The federal government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians,” the statement added.

Man killed for sleeping with kingsman's wife

A 60-year-old man, Ukaegbu Ogii, has been stabbed to death over an alleged sexual relationship with the wife of his kinsman, in Ndiolumbe community, Isiala Ngwa South council of Abia State. A community source said that the attacker , identified as Nkume, allegedly stabbed Ogii following an argument over an alleged sexual affair with Nkume's wife. Some eyewitnesses alleged that Nkume used a dagger to stab him in the neck. Ogii died before he could receive medical attention, while his attacker fled before the youths were alerted to the scene. It was also gathered that Nkume had at several times confronted Ogii, accusing him of having an affair with his wife,leaving him with an injury during one of the occasions. The Ndiolumbe community was said to have made efforts to resolve the issue,all to no avail. "Nkume has been accusing Ukaegbu Ogii of having a sexual relationship with his wife. Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration. The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government through  a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.  The minister, who congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter, urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  He reiterated that the goal of the government remained taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity.
