Amaechi blames Tinubu govt for insecurity, condoles Borno bomb victims

FORMER Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has condemned the recent bombing in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing it as a tragic incident and a reflection of the worsening insecurity in the country.

Amaechi, in a statement commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the Monday night bombing in the Borno State capital, expressing sympathy with the victims and residents affected by the attack.

The former Rivers State governor said Nigerians should not continue to live in fear while grappling with persistent insecurity, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains the fundamental responsibility of government.

According to him, the Maiduguri bombing highlights the urgent need for stronger and more decisive measures to address the country’s security challenges.

Amaechi said the repeated attacks on communities across the country have continued to raise concerns about the safety of citizens, noting that government must demonstrate greater commitment to tackling banditry, terrorism and other forms of violent crime.

He stated that leadership must go beyond statements and promises, adding that Nigerians deserve safety, peace and dignity.

The former minister urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to restore public confidence by strengthening security operations and ensuring that perpetrators of violent attacks are brought to justice.

Amaechi also expressed solidarity with the government and people of Borno State, urging authorities to provide adequate support for the victims and their families while working to prevent further attacks.

Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration. The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government through  a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.  The minister, who congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter, urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  He reiterated that the goal of the government remained taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity.
