Amuwo Odofin LG set to relocate Agboju Market to temporary site
AS an alternative option to making the business transactions of traders in Agboju Market in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State more convenient and seamless, the local government has approved the relocation option of the traders selling on the road and major walkways in the area to a conducive, cleaner and safer temporary market settlement.
The resettlement location it was gathered, is currently under construction in the Agboju Area of the local government.
To ensure the rapid construction of the market site, the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Prince Lanre Sanusi, popularly called PLS, has directed rapid action on the construction of the temporary market by the work force handling the construction of the settlement.
Speaking on the commitment of the local government to prepare a temporary market location for the traders, Sanusi said; “The market under construction is a temporary settlement which when completed will accommodate and serve as an alternative market for traders in the Agboju area of the local government.”
He explained that the measure was part of efforts to allow the local government continue the job of the renovation of Agboju Market Road, clearing of the drainage and fixing electrification project of the market, which will last for some period of time.
In line with the council chairman’s statement, all traders in Agboju area have been duly notified and encouraged to plan for the temporary market settlement resolve of the government with the aim of placing them into a new temporary location for more conducive business engagements, transactions and their day-to-day trading activities in the new market which will be handed over to them in a matter of weeks from the date of commencement.
The Agboju market road construction and the electrification project of the market, will also extend across to the Agboju-Badagry Expressway area, also a project to be embarked on by the local government immediately the construction of the temporary market settlement in Agboju is completed.
Meanwhile, the people handling the preparation of the temporary settlement, have expedited action on the market construction in order for the traders in the area to settle down immediately, transacting businesses unhindered and bearing in mind the specifications, timely delivery of the job and quick completion of the market, a mandate given by the Executive Chairman of the local government.
Presently, rapid works are ongoing on the parcel of land allocated for the construction of the temporary market in the Agboju Area.
“The new temporary market will be delivered to the traders in Agboju Market in fulfilment of the promise made by the council to relocate the displaced market men and women along Agboju axis of the local government to a convenient place for their regular trading,” Sanusi stated.
The council boss has also planned to construct a permanent and bigger Ultra-Modern International market in 6th Avenue area of Festac Town for all traders, business owners to engage in a large scale and structured international marketing, business transactions, trading operations and dealings to be permanently carried out by the traders, and business owners at affordable prices in Festac Town and its environs.
After the completion of the international market in the region, all traders in Festac Town will be relocated to the site permanently.
Similarly, the expanse of land in the 6th Avenue area of Festac Town has been earmarked for Mechanic Village where all mechanics, automobile jobs and workshops in Festac and Amuwo Odofin will be located.
