Club World Cup: Chelsea 2-0 LAFC

Pedro Neto scored Chelsea's first goal at the 2025 Club World Cup competition to give them the lead against Los Angeles Football Club, LAFC.

It was a well-taken finish from the winger in the 34th minute to get the Premier League side off to a strong start at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Chelsea will face Flamengo in their second group game at the Lincoln Financial Field, with the match scheduled for Friday, June 20 (2pm local time kick-off/7pm UK). The Blues will then take on Esperance, a Moroccan side, on Tuesday, June 24 at 9pm local time, or Wednesday, June 25 at 2am UK time.

If Chelsea are to progress as group winners, then the Blues' round of 16 match will take place in Miami. Should they also go through that, the quarter-final will be in Atlanta before back-to-back games in New York for the semi-final and final of the competition.

Chelsea secured place at this year FIFA Club World Cup by defeating Manchester City in the 2020/21 Champions League final, claiming one of the 12 berths open to teams who play under European football's governing body. That was the second time the Blues lifted the Championship League trophy, following victory over Bayern Munich in 2012.

The winner of the FIFA Club World Cup will rake in up to $125 million.

Many have questioned how seriously the Premier League teams - Chelsea and Manchester City - will be taking the revamped tournament this summer. But if player interviews are anything to go by, Chelsea are desperate to win the first ever edition of this much-changed competition.

Venue: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta
