Gas explosion: Buildings, vehicles, food items burnt


Buildings, vehicles, foodstuffs and other valuables have been burnt, as another gas explosion, on Saturday, hit Sabon Wuse in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State.

However, no life was lost because the explosion took place late at night.

It was reported residents on hearing the explosion, ran out of their houses for safety. 

Thick smoke from the explosion enveloped the entire area and its environs causing panic confusion.

It was gathered that some residential houses, shops and vehicles were completely razed.

Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Abdullahi Arah, who confirmed the explosion, said "At about 11:00 pm yesterday been Saturday 8, February 2025,  one Tasiu Gas Plant, beside Kalasma Filling Station, Sabon Wuse along Kaduna express way  got exploded  and busted into fire.

"The incident occurred as a result of trans-loading gas from a gas trailer tanker to the surface tank and both the trailer and the gas plant were completely burnt along with a  car belonging to one  Abubakar Yakubu parked by the side.

"Similarly, Ngeil grains processing factory behind the gas plant was also gutted by the inferno and about 550 bags of beans and six bags of soya beans were burnt in the factory." 

Within three weeks, similar incidents had taken place in the state.

First was in Dikko in Gurara LGA where over 100 people were roasted beyond recognition, scores wounded and properties worth millions of naira lost. The second was along Lapai-Agaie road after Bida town which also occurred late night. The driver and the motor boy sustained injuries and rushed to the hospital while the third one was in Sabon Pegi in Mashegu local government area where mining explosives and other dangerous materials stored in a shop exploded destroying houses, shops and other valuables.
