Following the formal ceremony,Be Meranda and the lawmakers posed for photographs, just as the lawmakers praised the Speaker and urged her to continue her work.
“Madam, continue your work; your work is appealing to us. You are the Speaker, you are the Speaker, you are the Speaker.
“Speak for Lagos. Continue with your work,” they chanted.
After the accolades, the lawmakers followed Meranda to her official office, where intense prayers were offered as she settled into her new role.
Meanwhile, security has been strengthened around the Lagos State House of Assembly to ensure a smooth and peaceful plenary session.
Avoid banana peels, Mamora tells Speaker
Meanwhile, a former Minister of Science and Technology, Senator Olorunnibe Mamora, has urged the Speaker to avoid possible banana peels during her tenure.
Mamora, in a chat with press, said: “To ensure that the pit into which her predecessor fell, she must not fall into the same pit or put differently. In the legislature we talk of banana peel. Banana peel, you step on it, it slips."
So you should not step on banana peel. What does she need to do? Let her look at those allegations against her predecessor. In that statement as read out, the colleagues talked of high handedness, they talked of financial misappropriation or whatever. They talked of unfairness to their colleagues.
“They talked of intimidation. So, she should have a look at those things. And when she looks at those things, what does she do,? She must ensure that she does not do similar things that her predecessor was accused of. Of course, if those allegations are true.”
