Bandits kill 8, kidnap 38 in fresh Katsina attack

Bandits, Monday night, attacked the Yan Nasarawa community in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, killed eight and kidnapped 38, who were mostly women and children.

The bandits also looted shops, rustled animals and set buildings on fire before leaving the community.

The locals who survived the attack, told the BBC Hausa Service that they were overpowered by the bandits, who  parked their motorcycles on the outskirts of the village, stormed the community and shot sporadically.

A son to the Village Chief of Yan Nasarawa, who claimed  that his father was among those killed, said the bandits rode on about 40 motorcycles and invaded the community wielding dangerous weapons.

“They killed my father, who was the community head and his brother,” he said.

Another local said: “They killed no fewer than eight persons. Six died immediately while the other two died afterwards. They set fire on seven cars and abducted about 38 persons.

“Security agents came at midnight but the incident happened at 9p.m., when the bandits had operated and left. We are in a state of fear and confusion. They’ve burnt our houses, our vehicles and our shops.”

Contacted, the state  Commissioner for  Internal Security, Dr. Salisu Mu’azu, told journalists that he was at a meeting with the Commissioner of Police and promised to revert but did not at press tume.
