One dies as fleeing robbers ram into stationed trailer

A suspected armed robber has been confirmed dead after an operational vehicle used by his criminal gang rammed into a stationed trailer while attempting to flee the scene of a robbery operation.

It was gathered that the five-man robbery gang had met their waterloo at Ada-George Road/Rumukokwu in Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Mile 3 Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, yesterday after they had attacked a warehouse.

An eye witness, Mr. Woke disclosed that the five-man robbery gang had attacked a warehouse along the Ada George/Chinda area that deals in sealed engine oil.

Woke noted that the armed robbers came in two vehicles and that while they were leaving after successfully loading cartons of engine oil into their car the private security guard attached to the warehouse raised an alarm which attracted the attention of passersby and the Police.

He disclosed that while the police were chasing the gang and in an attempt to use an alternative route the gang rammed into a stationed trailer.

A video of the incident showed one of the dead members of the gang in the front seat of the vehicle while two members were lying critically injured on the ground.

It was gathered that two of the gang members however, who sustained minor injuries came out of the crashed car and escaped before police arrived at the scene.

The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe Koko, a Superintendent of Police, said Police were giving the robbers chase when they collided with a stationary vehicle.

She disclosed that the suspects were rushed to hospital where one of them was confirmed dead, adding that the other two who were critically injured are now receiving treatment.
