2 dead as security personnel, bandits engage in gun battle

 A team of security personnel, yesterday, engaged a gang of bandits in a gun battle at Tse Gaagum village in Ukemberegya Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, killing two and recovering arms and ammunition from the gang.

It was gathered from a source in the area that the armed men, who have been terrorising communities on that axis of the state, stormed the village at about 4 am, shooting sporadically to take people hostage and dispossess them of their belongings.

However, a member of the community was able to alert security personnel, who stormed the community and engaged the gang in a gun battle.

He said: “The bandits stormed the village at about 4 am on Wednesday and forcefully took away motorcycles and valuables belonging to some of the villagers.

“Luckily, a resident made a call to security personnel who raced to the area and succeeded in chasing them after a gunfight and in the process killed two of them and recovered a Bajaj motorcycle.”

Contacted, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, Joseph Har, confirmed the development and commended the security operatives for their prompt response to the distress call.

He said items recovered from the gang included a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle with six live ammunition, a matchete and assorted charms while the body of the gunmen had been recovered and deposited at the NKST hospital morgue in Ugba, Logo LGA.

Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.
