Deliver developmental project to people — Sanwo-Olu

*Urges new cabinet members not to disappoint Lagos residents

GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, yesterday, charged his new cabinet members to ensure the delivery of the developmental agenda of the administration to residents of the state.

The governor, who also charged the cabinet members to reflect excellence in the discharge of their duties, expressed optimism about a better society, saying, "I see a bigger Lagos rising. "

Sanwo-Olu spoke after the swearing-in of the 38 newly inaugurated Commissioners and Special Advisers, held at Adeyemi Bero, Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

The state House of Assembly had earlier confirmed the nominees sent by Sanwo-Olu for confirmation.

In his address, the governor said: "This event is historic. The members of the state Executive Council have been painstakingly chosen. They are emblems of what Lagos is all about.

"Meeting the target is not an option. You must reflect excellence in your duty with the best interest of the people at heart."

On the rejection of some nominees, the governor said: "Earlier, I alluded to the painstaking effort at selecting the members of this Executive Council. The process worked in the very way that it was designed to, a collaborative effort between the Executive and Legislature to throw up the best hands that will serve the people of Lagos State.

"Accordingly, I want to express my utmost gratitude to the Honourable Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa; and to every member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

"As representatives of our people in their various constituencies, they did the job required of them by our Constitution. This Executive Council is so much better for their efforts.

"Let me go further to say that I am not unaware of the feelings in some quarters that the initial rejection of some nominees by the Lagos State House of Assembly, necessitating the submission of a revised list of nominees, signified a call to arms between the Executive and the Legislature. I reject such feelings in totality.

"Were the Executive designed to be omnipotent and omniscient, the very important oversight function of the Legislature would be needless.

"Thankfully, our Constitution recognises that our people will be best served with a system of Checks and Balances that is led by independent bodies in each Arm of Government.

"This system demands collaboration, and a willingness to give and take without rancour. That is what the Executive and Legislature of Lagos State, in the past few weeks, have fully demonstrated in arriving at this event."

We won't disappoint, Omotoso assures

Speaking on behalf of the executives, Mr Omotoso promised not to disappoint the governor and the people of the state.

He said: "Our dear Lagos we continue to be the pride for others.

"The oath of office we have all taken is truly symbolic of our willingness to embrace everything that will be in the best interest of our dear state of excellence Lagos and Lagosians as well as our great party the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Governor our leaders. I'm sure will not disappoint you, once again we are grateful."
