Kidnappers demand N1bn ransom for PDP chieftain

A-Gunmen, who abducted the chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State,  Chief Eyo Edet, popularly called Eyo Aswang, have reportedly demanded  N1 billion before letting him off the hook.

The PDP strong man was abducted at his filling station at Marina in Oron and whisked him away to an unknown destination in the swamp.

The victim, who is the Chairman of Eyotech Oil Nigeria Limited, has since spent over a week in captivity. 

The kidnappers were said to have beaten him  before  whisking  him away in their Sienna SUV and subsequently transferred him into a waiting speed boat at the sea side and set the Sienne SUV that they came with for the operation ablaze. 

According to a source, contact has been made with the family and the abductors were asking for N1 billion to free him.

The source lamented that the ransom fee was too high as the family cannot afford it and pleaded that he should be released unconditionally .

“In fact the amount they are quoting for us is so exorbitant. Where will the family get such money from in this present financial inclement condition in the country?” the source said.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon said investigation was ongoing as ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi as the Police were working with intelligence information to get to the roots of the matter . 

He said: “The command is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the needful is done. Investigations are on and I’m sure the perpetrators will be brought to book in no distant time.”
