Security man jailed for impersonating army officer

A 31-year-old security man, Blessed Danjuma, has been sentenced to three months imprisonment by an Akure Magistrates’ Court for impersonating an army personnel.

Danjuma was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of impersonation brought against him by the police.

Chief Magistrate O. Yakubu, thereafter, sentenced the convict to three months at Olokuta prison without an option of fine.

Yakubu said the sentence would serve as deterrent to others who engage in similar act.

Police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen, had informed the court that Danjuma committed the offence on April 15, 2023, about 12a.m., at Shasha, Akure/Owo Road.

Omhenemhen alleged that the convict was arrested by military personnel while dispossessing passersby of their belongings in the area, adding that he was, thereafter, handed over to the police.

According to him, the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Section 109 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37. Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria, 2006.

Replying, counsel to the defendant, Kizito Duru, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy with his client.

Duru said Danjuma, upon arrest, confessed to the crime and that he was a first offender.
