How we discovered our 4-yr-old child was defiled by school guard — Mother
THE mother of a four-year-old pupil, who was allegedly defiled by the private guard at Greater Scholars International School, Lekki, Lagos, David, on April 27, 2023, has revealed how her family discovered what she described as unthinkable act.
In an exclusive interview with this reporter, she recalled how her husband had gone to the school to pick the child on the day the alleged act was committed.
According to her, “On reaching the school, he (husband) noticed that it took a while before our daughter could come out. He was walking towards her class to find out what was keeping her when he saw the guard bringing her with her lunch bag. On closer observation, he noticed that our daughter looked downcast, unlike her usual bubbling self. When he asked what the matter was, she said 'nothing'.
“She still had that gloomy look when she got home. I also noticed that the pair of trousers she wore to school wasn’t what she put on when she came home. I checked her backpack and found it wrapped in a nyon bag and looked like it had been washed.
“Throughout that weekend, she was not herself. My husband and I were worried and wondered what could have happened.
"By Sunday night of April 30, 2023, she complained that her private part was paining her while peeing. Immediately I poured water on her, she started crying and screaming that the pains were severe.
"Her cry alerted her father who came out to know why she was crying. When my husband pointed his phone torch to her private part for me to have a closer look to know the possible cause of the pain, I saw that she had some cuts, bruises and injuries. At that point, I knew something was not right.
“We rushed her that night to Lifeline Children’s Hospital in Lekki Phase 1. After the pediatrician examined her, they ran a Urinary Tract Infection,UTI, test and the result came out negative. While we were there, they sent the pictures of the injuries and we were referred to a gynecologist.
“The next day being Monday we went to Lagos Island Maternity Hospital where two gynecologists examined her and said the bruises didn’t look like an infection. They ran another UTI test and the result came out negative again.
“When we asked my daughter what happened to her, it was difficult before she opened up. You could read fear in her eyes. We had to assure her she wasn’t going back to the school before she opened up that 'it was Mr David, the school security that put his thing in my bum bum.'
"My daughter said after she was abused, she went to report to her teacher that Mr David put his thing in her bumbum but that the teacher flogged her and told her not to tell anyone.
“My mother-in-law and I went back to school the next day being Tuesday, May 2, 2023, to see the teachers and administrative person to report our findings to the school. From the school’s response, it was obvious they were being economical with what happened because their explanation didn’t add up. We then had to involve the Police.”
She, therefore, called on the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Idowu Owohunwa, to ensure that the case was thoroughly investigated for her daughter to get justice.
Meanwhile, spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect had been arrested and that he would be charged to the Gender Unit of the command today for further investigation.
