Court remands 7 men over alleged murder of police officer

AN Iyaganku Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Ibadan, yesterday, remanded seven men at the Agodi correctional facility over the alleged murder of a police officer.

They are Sarafa Lateef (30), Saminu Ibrahim (28), Oloso Sikiru (36), Fatai Yusuf (45), Moruf Olanrewaju (42), Isiaka Rafiu (40), and Anuoluwa Akinola (32).

They were arraigned for conspiracy and murder.

The prosecutor, ASP Amos Adewale, earlier told the court that the defendants conspired on April 25 somewhere on Iseyin Road, Moniya, Ibadan, and caused the death of one Inspector Augustine Okoro (43).

He added that the accused beat and stoned Inspector Okoro to death while the deceased was conducting stop-and-search routine duty in the area.

The offence, he said, contravened the Criminal Code of Oyo State 2000.

Presiding Chief Magistrate E. A. Idowu, who did not take the plea of the accused for want of jurisdiction, ordered their remand at the Agodi correctional facility.

Idowu referred the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for advice and adjourned the matter to July 10, for mention.

National Grid: FG splits TCN, as NISO begins operations

THE Federal Government has formally inaugurated the board and management of the Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, marking the official unbundling of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, into two separate entities. Under the new structure, the Transmission Service Provider, TSP, will oversee TCN’s physical infrastructure, including transmission towers, power lines, and substations. Meanwhile, NISO will take charge of system operations, managing load allocation from generation companies to distribution companies and eligible customers. Insecurity: Amotekun, Agbekoya warriors move into S-West forests

FOLLOWING the rising wave of kidnapping in Kwara and Kogi states, Agbekoya warriors have moved to some villages in Oyo State to flush out terrorists hibernating there.
