Bomb explodes injured many at drinking spot

UNSPECIFIED number of people reportedly sustained injuries, at a drinking spot in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, following a suspected bomb blast.

It was gathered that the explosion, suspected to be from an improvised explosive device went off around 9pm Sunday at Jika drinking spot in Dorowa. 

An eyewitness, Peace Danjuma, who spoke said: “Yesterday (Sunday) as at 9pm, we were at a local joint called Jika, drinking, when something under the chair we were seated on exploded. 

“The whole place was filled with smoke while we took to our heels. We ran outside for safety but the blast broke my friend’s leg.”

The state Police command’s spokesman, Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the blast, however, said details were still sketchy but added that “men of the anti-bomb squad are doing their investigation.”

Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration. The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government through  a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.  The minister, who congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter, urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  He reiterated that the goal of the government remained taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity.
