FORMER Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Housing, and Apex Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Igando-Ikotun Constituency, Hon. Jimoh Ajao, has promised the people of Igando-Ikotun that the state government will improve their welfare.

The APC chieftain also  appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support the government in providing social amenities to the people, especially those in the grassroots, saying that government alone cannot meet the needs of the people.

Ajao made the call at the Igando Joint CDAs award ceremony, held at Ajao Event Centre, Igando, after hearing some of the residents' complaints about epileptic power supply, bad roads, and poor drainage in the community.

The community asked for a special intervention fund for Igando-Ikotun residents, especially areas where they are dumping refuse that has polluted the land, water and air.

They also asked for the erection of Internal Generated Revenue billboard, which will indicate the rates residents will pay to Igando-Ikotun LCDA.

Ajao promised that the government would address these issues and improve the residents' quality of life.

Earlier, the chairman of the Joint CDAs, Hon. Bodunrin Lawal Olumegbon, in his speech said: “The creation of the Igando Joint CDAs is one of the greatest achievements in the history of CDAs in Igando as it has become a tool to help other CDAs in Igando to achieve their goals. Among the achievements of the CDAs in the area are some roads have been tarred, new transformers have been mounted in some communities; and solar street lights were erected in some communities. The peace we feel in Igando as a whole is part of the achievements of this Joint CDAs.

“There is more work to be done as governance is a continum and has not ended yet. It can be done faster and better through the well-organised structure of the CDAs.

“The chairman, Award Committee, Prince Adebowale said: “The purpose of the award, is to appreciate and honour those who have contributed to the development of the community, touched the lives of the people and are supportive of the CDAs. “The Igando Joint CDAs have come together, reasoned together, identified their problems together, and proffered solutions together."


The Supervisor for Agriculture in Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, (LCDA), Mr. Femi Bolarinwa, thanked the organisers of the award, saying that it shows their commitment to the grassroots.

He said: “Community service is a thankless job and very important to do, when the task falls upon you, do it diligently and efficiently for the progress of your community. Igando Joint CDAs have shown their commitment to making an impact in their areas. They have rehabilitated some roads, installed electricity transformers and cleared the drainages.” 

Bolarinwa appealed to all CDAs to put in more efforts and make their presence and impact more valuable and useful at the grassroots level.

The special guest at the award, Hon. Adele Ayuba, House of Representatives candidate in Alimosho stated that the importance of CDAs at the grassroots is immeasurable, adding that CDA is the most critical association in the communities. He solicited the CDAs' support for his victory and other APC candidates in the general elections.

He said: “Please, assist us to get this job done and success in the coming election. We are all in it together. Previously, getting an APC ticket in Lagos guaranteed victory. But today, you have to work harder because the challenge and competition are getting tougher.

"We know this election is different. I am appealing to you to cast your votes for APC candidates. We need your support. Most of our children did not understand what is on the ground. Let them understand the situation and support the credible candidate that can do it and make their lives better."

Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration. The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government through  a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.  The minister, who congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter, urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  He reiterated that the goal of the government remained taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity.
