I'll make UNILAG future-ready —Ogunsola

THE Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, yesterday, said her focus in office would be to make the university future ready and, in the process, produce graduates ready to squarely face the challenges the future may present.

She stated this during her investiture as the 13th VC of the 60-year-old university and the first female to occupy the office.

Ogunsola said: “I thank the Governing Council for ensuring merit in the choice of the Vice Chancellor. Universities are known for standing and upholding merit. In the last 60 years, UNILAG has distinguished itself and has produced over 200,000 graduates. With the upsurge in disruptive technologies, there is a need for us to be future ready and we are focusing on preparing students that are future-ready by running a university that is future-ready as well.

"We are committed to working with the Council and others to create a university that will prepare all for the future. Universities are to produce thinkers and the welfare of all, the workers and students, would be a top priority. 

"We will adopt new teaching methods and new courses to reflect modern realities would be introduced.

"In line with our mandate, a new campus for research and development in the free trade zone of Epe would kick off. We will strengthen our alumni relations and be in forefront of promoting urban agriculture.”

The Pro-Chancellor, who is also the Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Lanre Tejuosho, said the choice of Ogunsola as the VC was divine.

Oyo school kidnap: We can’t risk more lives in rescue efforts — Soun

Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration. The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government through  a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.  The minister, who congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter, urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  He reiterated that the goal of the government remained taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity.
