How cow killed ex-youth leader


TRAGEADY struck on Christmas Eve in Obogoro Community in Yenagoa Local Government Area when a cow slated for slaughter, gored to death a former youth president of the community, Sobokime Igodo.

It was gathered that the deceased and a group of friends had contributed money to purchase the cow, which would be slaughtered and shared during the Yuletide season, as they do every year.

It was also gathered that at the deceased's home, where the sharing was to take place, that the two butchers hired were unable to make the cow stand because they kept attempting to kill it.

The deceased, who had been inside the house, had emerged, but he was on a call and was not paying attention to the drama between the two.butchers and the cow  when suddenly the cow charged towards the deceased, kicked him so hard that he landed on his back and broke his spine.

He was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre  FM), Yenagoa before he was referred to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Rivers State where he was confirmed dead.

A family source said the circumstances surrounding the death of Sobokime were devastating to the family and the Obogoro Community, adding that his death has ruined the air of festivities for the family and the youths of the community.

Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.
