Four dead, 9 injured in road crash
NO fewer than four persons were confirmed dead, while nine others sustained injuries in an early morning accident on the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos expressway, yesterday.
The accident, which involved a Mazda bus and an unregistered truck, occurred at Obada Oko, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Mrs. Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Ogun, who disclosed this to newsmen in Abeokuta, explained that 14 persons, nine male adults and five female adults were involved in the accident.
The statement read, "the crash occurred in the early hours of today (Thursday) at Obada-Oko on Abeokuta-Lagos expressway".
"A total of 14 persons were involved which comprised of 09 male adults and 05 female adults. 09 persons sustained injuries, 04 male adults and 05 female adults".
"A total of 04 persons died, all male adults, 02 vehicles were involved with registration numbers KRD831YD a Mazda Bus and unregistered Truck".
Okpe explained that the accident was caused by route violation on the part of the unregistered truck which had a collision with the bus marked KRD 831 YD, saying unfortunately the driver refused to stop.
She added that the injured victims were taken to Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, State General Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta and Aries Medicare Hospital, Obada town for medical attention.
The FRSC spokesperson explained that the deceased had been taken away by their family members.
She explained that the FRSC Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, advised motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations.
He reiterated the roles of passengers in cautioning drivers and also use the Toll-free number 122 to report any reckless driving.
