4 persons, 7 cattle killed in Ondo, Jigawa auto crashes

THREE persons have been feared killed in two separate auto crashes that occurred along the Akure-Ilesha and Akure-Ondo highways.

Eyewitness said two persons on motorcycles died after having a head-on collision with an on-coming vehicle in the Akure-llesha highway.

According to him, “two persons died on the spot while one sustained injury in the accident that occurred around Onyereagbulem area of the Akure-Ilesha highway.

He said the accident involved the Okada rider and a white Lexus SUV with number plate, Lagos FKJ 239 EE.

The survivor, who gave his name as David, said they were returning from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, where they were engaged in menial jobs when the crash occurred.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later arrived at the scene to convey the victim and those injured to the hospital.

Contacted, the Ondo Sector Commander of FRSC, SonAllah Ezekiel, confirmed the crash and the casualties, yesterday.

SonAllah blamed the accident on light sign violation and loss of control.

He stated that the person who sustained a head injury was receiving treatment at a hospital while the two corpses were deposited in a morgue in Akure.

He also confirmed the death of one person in the accident that involved a truck with number plate, MUS932XX and a Toyota Sienna bus number plate RBC412CU near the Nigerian Army Barracks in Akure.

The sector commander explained that the accident was caused by speeding.

“The victims were taken to the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo by men of the Nigerian Army before our arrival while the corpse was taken to UNIMED by FRSC men," he said.

Also yesterday, the Police in Jigawa confirmed the death of one person and seven cattle in an auto crash that occurred in Gagarawa Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman of the police command, DSP Lawan Shiisu, said the incident occurred Tuesday at about 2:30 p.m. at Bosuwa.

He said: “On Tuesday, at about 2:30 p.m., there was a fatal motor vehicle accident at Bosuwa junction in Gagarawa LGA involving a trailer with number plate Yobe FUN 351 XA, loaded with about 38 cows driven by one Abdullahi. aged 27, of Potiskum, Yobe.

“On reaching Bosuwa junction, the driver lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road and collided with a stationary red Sharon vehicle with number plate NNR 394 XA, parked at the shoulder of the road.”

He said a police team evacuated the victims who sustained injuries to the hospital.

The spokesman added that one of the victims was confirmed dead at Gumel General Hospital, while nine others were admitted at Gagarawa Primary Healthcare Centre.

According to him, seven of the cattle died on the spot while 10 critically injured ones were slaughtered.
