Bandits invade community, kill 6, cart away foodstuffs

About six people were reportedly killed by bandits in Pinau community, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State Wednesday.

It was also gathered that the bandits carted away foodstuffs and other personal effects of fleeing villagers.

One of the villagers, Ishaku Yahaya, said he was lucky to have escaped being hit by stray bullets on his way back to Pinau after attending an engagement in Wase town.

“On my way back, I heard the commotion in the community and had to wait for all to calm down. Apart from those people stray bullets hit, some others were injured as they were running to find hiding places.”

He stated that the casualty figure was low because many people were not home when the bandits arrived.

It would be recalled that about five days ago, residents had raised concern about the withdrawal of security personnel from the area, noting that such would increase the incidences of invasion.

Already, residents in vulnerable communities are trooping to Wase town and other places they feel safe, and farmlands are abandoned due to insecurity.

The spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, OpSH, Major Ishaku Takwa, said troops have been sent to the area.
