Gunmen attack NIWA officials

FIVE officials of the Nigerian Inland Water Ways Authority, NIWA, are presently receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at hospitals in Anambra State.

It was gathered that three bullets were extracted by the doctors from the neck of one of the officials, rushed to the Nnewi General Hospital.

Vanguard gathered the workers, who are members of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, were attacked last Wednesday at Otu Junction, Nnewi South, Anambra State, on official assignment.

Confirming the incident, President-General of MWUN, Prince Adeyanju Adewale, said: “They were travelling in their official NIWA branded Hilux when they were attacked for straying into Biafra land in a Nigeria branded sport utility vehicle. Three bullets were extracted by the medical team from the neck of one of the officials rushed to the Nnewi General Hospital.

“We commend the Managing Director of NIWA, Dr George Moghalu, for his prompt response, which enabled quick medical assistance to our injured members.

Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration.
