Rituals: 2 arrested for killing 4-year-old boy
TWO suspects, Mubarak Yunusa and Emmanuel Okuagba, found with the mutilated body of a four-year-old boy, have been arrested in Lapai, headquarters of Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State by police operatives.
It was gathered that the four-year-old boy, Hussaini Ibrahim, was declared missing by his parents last Friday only for his mutilated body to be found in a sack being carried by one of the suspects, Mubarak, the following day.
Most parts of the deceased including his head, eyes and private part among others were said to have been removed for the rituals.
It was also gathered that the suspect was about to dump the dismembered body into a stream in Lapai when he was caught.
The arrest of the suspect, according to a source, was as a result of information availed the Lapai Police Command by residents of the town of the suspicious movement of one of the suspects.
Upon the receipt of the information, Police operatives trailed Mubarak Yunusa and apprehended him.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he dumped a dead body, packaged in a sack at a river within the Lapai area, adding that the sack was given to him by his shop landlord, Emannuel Okuagba.
In the course of the investigation, Mubarak led a team of Policemen to the river where the decomposed body of the said missing boy, concealed in a bag was recovered and taken to General Hospital Lapai for autopsy.
The second suspect, Emmanuel, was equally arrested after his implication by Mubarak.
Spokesman of the state Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the arrest, said while the suspects were under Police custody for interrogations, some irate youths in the town stormed the Police station asking for the release of the suspects for them to be lynched.
The PPRO said: “The angry mob mobilised to Lapai Police Division demanding the release of the suspects for them to lynch but as their efforts were futile, the mob stormed the shop and house of the suspects and set them ablaze.
The PPRO said the case is under investigation and the suspects will be arraigned in court immediately after the conclusion of the investigation.
The Police Command, however, appealed to members of the public to desist from mob violence and jungle justice but rather support the Police and other security agencies to carry out their lawful responsibility in ensuring the dispensation of justice.
