Gunmen attack bullion van smash many vehicles
A bullion van was, yesterday, attacked by unknown gunmen at Ogbor Nguru, Nwankwo in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
An eyewitness said the gunmen went after the bullion van heading to Mbaise from Owerri thinking it was conveying cash.
The eyewitness added that the unknown gunmen shot sporadically at the driver of the van and two other persons, but “the driver in the bid to escape somersaulted.”
The driver of the bullion van escaped after the somersaulting severally and rammed into about four different vehicles packed at the spot where it happened. It smashed the vehicles as well as destroyed the windows, doors, and windscreens of the vehicles.
“A bullion van conveying cash from Owerri to Mbaise was attacked at Ogbo Nguru, in Aboh Mbaise LGA. The bullion van was double-crossed and under serious fire. The vehicle tumbled and destroyed about four other cars parked in that area.
“The driver of the bullion van was able to escape, but his vehicle destroyed other vehicles parked in the area. Those vehicles were completely damaged but we thank God the driver was safe. They thought the bullion van was carrying cash. They were going back to Owerri after their delivery.”
When the state Police Public relations Officer, Michael Abattam, was contacted for a reaction he did not pick up calls put across to him.
