2 killed, others injured as Operation Burst, youth clash

Dispatch riders protesting against hike in license fees for their bikes operating in Lagos State at the Lagos State House of Assembly Alausa, Ikeja.

A free-for-all between operatives of the Oyo State Joint Security Task Force code-named Operation Burst and youths at Iluju community in Oriire Local Government Area of the state claimed two lives last Sunday.

Pandemonium, according to an eyewitness, broke out when Operation Burst responded to a distress call from unidentified villagers that one Abiodun was causing public disturbances in the area.

It was further gathered that some youths resisted the arrest of the suspect by the security operatives on arrival in the town in their patrol van.

Unconfirmed report said one of the officers allegedly shot one of the youths, a development that prompted the villagers to go on reprisal, which resulted in the death of an officer and the destruction of Operation Burst vehicle.

Sources further told our correspondent that several people also sustained injuries.

At press time, it was gathered that normalcy had returned to the town, as villagers were seen going about their lawful businesses unhindered.

Meanwhile, the state Police Command said it had launched a full-scale investigation into the incident 

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, in a text message, said: “The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, Ngozi Onadeko, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the root cause of the incident. Updates would be provided in due course, please.”

Police rescue 2 suspected kidnappers from youths

In another development, the state Police Command, weekend, rescued two suspected kidnappers from being lynched by mob in Ibadan.

Police, in a statement by its spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso,  yesterday, said the police received a distress call that youths were about to lynch the duo of Kabiru Salam and Lukman Adisa for allegedly attempting to kidnap a nine-year-old girl on her way to church.

He said: “Preliminary investigations revealed that the girl was in the company of her mother, one Afolabi Modupe, and other siblings when the two suspects attempted seizing her from her mother’s grip. 

“The suspects, who are now in Police custody, were first taken to hospital for medical attention.”

Osifeso said the command had since commenced investigations into the matter, adding that the state Commissioner of Police has also appealed to the citizenry against taking laws into their hands with the assurances of a diligent and thorough investigation into the incident.

Police arrest pastor for allegedly sodomising 3 siblings

Police operatives attached to Ajeromi Division, Lagos State Police Command are currently investigating one Elijah Emenendu for allegedly sodomising three siblings who are members of his church.

Emenendu, a pastor at the Chapel of Revelation Ministry at Ajeromi area of Ajegunle allegedly raped the victims severally. 

It was learned that Emenendu lured and started having anal sex with the eldest sibling after prophesying that God wants him to stop yahoo, yahoo.

The pastor taught him how to masturbate, telling the victim that he wants him to experience the power of God and he would release power into him through anal sex.

Vanguard gathered that the eldest sibling agreed and was bleeding after the act with severe pain. 

Emenendu had sex with him four times a week, twice a day, inserted a mop stick into his anus, used a syringe needle to prick his scrotum and navel. He began living with him last year and endured sex episodes with him.

It was also gathered that  Emenendu later moved to the immediate younger brother and taught him masturbation after telling him something is faulty with the quality of his semen and penis.  He sexually assaulted him, made him conduct oral sex and lick his anus.

Emenendu moved to the little brother and had sex with him too.  And then made them have sex with each other in his hotel room after church service.

However, trouble started when one of the siblings summoned courage and revealed what was happening. 

The case which was initially reported at the  Ajeromi Police Station has been transferred to Area B Command Apapa for further investigation.

Police nab 2 pastors over death of 20-yr-old woman in Ogun

Ogun State Police Command, has paraded Pastor Chidi Samuel Ejiogu and his assistant, Paul Zakari, over the mysterious death of a 20-year-old woman, Favour Okumazor, who was until her death, a member of his fellowship, Life Builders Network.

Chidi was said to have led Favour and some members of the fellowship to a remote location in Oyan village in Ogun State on October 2, 2021, without the consent of her parents for what he termed ‘Bible study.’

The Police Commissioner in the state, Lanre Bankole, who paraded the two pastors before newsmen at state Police command headquarters, Eleweran, said detectives were still investigating.

According to Bankole, while the programme progressed, a wave of strange ailments struck them with every participant reporting one form of illness or the other. 

He said: “Favour was said to have had bouts of stooling and vomiting, and for lack of first aid or accessible healthcare facility, she passed away in the night and was buried immediately in the strange village without her family being notified.

"A survivor, who fled the weird Bible study retreat in the said far-flung village, reported the experience to the Police and also led detectives to the location where Pastor Chidi and his assistant were arrested."

Chidi attributed their experience to “spiritual attack,” stressing that he had thought he could use “faith” to deliver and heal the afflicted members when on the day three of the retreat, he observed that they were all down with “strange illnesses.”

According to him, he regretted not seeking medical help to address the health emergency instead of resorting to “prayer and faith.”  

He also regretted burying Favour in the remote village without informing her parents.

He said: “Since this fellowship started in 2018 nothing of such has been recorded. All of us were struck down by an unknown sickness. We did not know what happened, we realised one morning when we woke up that she was dead. We did not know what to do, so, we had to bury her. We are very sorry and we apologise to her parents for not seeking their consent before burying her. That was the mistake we made.”

Also, Bankole paraded a local hunter, one Saheed Ogundahun, for allegedly killing a herdsman in Ewekoro, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

According to Bankole, Ogundahun was arrested on March 13 for killing the “Fulani herdsman with a dane gun.”

Bankole explained that the said Ogundahun after killing the herder, also “buried him in his farm in Ewekoro.”

Kidnapped cocoa merchant escapes while abductors slept off in Ondo

A 55-year-old cocoa merchant in Supare Akoko, Ondo State, Idowu Shaba, has reportedly escaped from the captivity of his abductors while they slept off.

The victim, according to reports, was kidnapped between Ago and ldoani while travelling for a church engagement.

A police source said the victim was abducted with another lady and was whisked into the thick forest with their hands tied to their back.

Speaking with Vanguard in confidence, a family member said the abductors had demanded N10 million ransom before the miraculous escape of the victim.

According to her, “Shaba had pretended to be in deep sleep, snoring heavily in the night that must have made his abductors, who believed that their victims were deeply asleep to also sleep with comfort.

“Shaba seized the opportunity to use their sharp cutlasses to cut the rope he and others were tied with and escaped.

The state Police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, said the victim narrated his ordeal to police detectives in the community after he escaped from the kidnappers’ den.

In another development, the family of a cobbler, Bolanle Adinlewa, stabbed to death by his mother’s tenant, Sikiru Owolabi, over N500 electricity bill said that they have accepted everything that happened as the will of God.

The deceased’s younger brother, Niyi Adinlewa, said: “Though the family is bereaved, we will not go to court against the killer, as no litigation will bring back my brother to life."

The 48-year-old deceased was said to have challenged the suspect, a tenant in the deceased mother’s house at Ijo Mimo, in Akure,  over his failure to pay the N500 electricity bill, despite that he was owing for several years.

Eyewitness said the suspect stabbed the deceased on his lower abdomen, which made his intestine burst out of his belly.

“Neighbours and sympathisers immediately rushed him to the hospital where he gave up the ghost. 

Odunlami said the suspect is under interrogation at the state Police Command while the remains of the deceased had been laid to rest.
