Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has appointed a Portuguese and former Porto Coach, Jose Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
Meanwhile, ahead of AFCON 2022, billed to kick off on January 9, former Super Eagles defender, Augustine Eguavoen, who was appointed the interim Head Coach of the team will continue his role as Coach of the team and will lead the Super Eagles to the AFCON 2022 in Cameroon; while Mr Peseiro will only play the role of observer.
It was gathered that former Chelsea and Man United boss, Jose Mourinho was contacted by the NFF Chief, Mr Amaju Pinnick, on the vacant role of the Super Eagles job, before he recommended a former Porto Coach, Jose Peseiro, for the job.

However, Augustine Eguavoen has released a 22-man list for the AFCON 2022 tournament billed to hold in Cameroun next January, with Premier League New Boy, Emmanuel Dennis earning a call-up to the national team.
Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles’ captain, was on-field captain when the Super Eagles lifted the Africa Nations’ Cup for the first time on away ground, in Tunisia 27 years ago.
He was coach of the squad when it finished third place at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in 2006.
Rodgers confirms release of Ndidi, Iheanacho for AFCON
Leicester City boss, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi will be released to the Nigeria Football Federation ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

The midfielder and striker will join a plane bound for the country’s capital Abuja immediately after the Foxes Premier League meeting with Norwich City on January 1, 2022 to link up with the Super Eagles at the pre-Africa Cup of Nations training camp.
Although Rodgers has recognized that his options would be limited if his African players join up with their national teams, the Northern Irish football tactician has underlined the importance of the players featuring in the continental showpiece.
In addition to Iheanacho and Ndidi, Rodgers will not be able to count on Daniel Amartey (Ghana) and Nampalys Mendy (Senegal) during the tournament in Cameroon.
Asked at the post-match press conference after against Liverpool if Amartey and Ndidi are going after this weekend’s game, Rodgers told reporters : “Kelechi as well, he’ll go. Nampalys Mendy, Wilfred and Daniel, they will go after the weekend’s game.”
Quizzed on how much it will hurt him, Rodgers said: “It will hurt a lot of course because of the situation we are in.
“However, it’s important for them to play, you know they love playing in this competition and it’s important for them to be playing for the country.
