How dog ate herbalist's private parts
The man, who lived at 12, Jebbs Street in Calabar South, according to neighbours, went on a drinking spree on Christmas Eve and returned home drunk.
One of his neighbours identified as Itoro said “When he came back, we had gone to bed but some people were still outside. He went inside his room and slept off without shutting the door and because of too much drink, he excreted on himself. His dog that was outside smelt the faeces and went inside to eat it. In the process, the dog ate his private parts thinking it was meat or part of the excreta.”
According to him, the man raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to rush into his apartment and discovered what had happened, saying “When we heard him scream, we thought hoodlums had attacked him. But when we got there, we saw that his private part was gone and his dog had blood on its mouth.”
Itoro said the man could not be rushed to the hospital because of the excreta that covered his body and needed to be cleaned up first.
“By the time we finished cleaning him of the shit, he was bleeding so much and on the way to the hospital he died,” she added.
The man lived alone as his daughters are married and lived away from him. He was taken to his village, Ikoneto on Boxing Day for burial.
Ebonyi: Fire destroys residential building, over 7 shops
A residential building and seven shops have been destroyed in a fire incident in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The fire outbreak occurred around Mile 50 Layout, Abakaliki area of the state destroying property worth millions of Naira.
Confirming the fire outbreak, the Federal Fire Service, Ebonyi Command, said the incident occurred at Aliugbala-Eze Street located around Eze and Bros Junction, Abakaliki.
Assistant Superintendent of Fire Service in the Command, Yakubu Zekeri, told Vanguard that no life was lost and no one was injured, pointing out that the quick drafting of firemen to the scene curtailed the spread of the fire.
Mr Zekeri, who led the firefighters to the scene, among others, said “For now, we can’t really ascertain the cause of the fire but one of the tenants has told us that it was caused by an electrical spark. We are still on a `damping down` and when we are done with it we will know the actual cause of the fire.”
He advised residents to cultivate the habit of switching off their electrical appliances when going out or going to bed, saying; “This will help them to prevent the chances of fire outbreak should there be a power surge in their homes. This is the dry season and a critical period for fire outbreaks. I urge the residents to always call on firefighters whenever there is any sign of fire. Do not wait for it to get worse before calling us.”
Victim recounts ordeal
One of the victims of the fire incident, a police officer, Calistus Akogu, said he lost all his documents and other valuables to the fire.
“I was in the office when my wife called me about the fire, but before I could get home, all my properties had already been damaged.
