Woman scams lover N2m with fake pregnancy, triplets

OPERATIVES
attached to the Ijanikin Divisional Police Headquarters, Lagos State Command are currently investigating one Joy Eze for using fake pregnancy and birth of triplets to extort her lover, Ayo Olorunda.

It was learned that the duo met and started dating in Lagos for about six months before the suspect, Joy, claimed she was pregnant for Ayo Olorunda, unknown to him that the fake pregnancy was a plan to defraud him.

It was gathered that to continue extorting him, a few months before she allegedly gave birth, Joy informed Olorunda that she had moved to Rivers State, where she was staying with her family.

Unknown to Olorunda that the suspect was somewhere in Ijanikin area of Ojo, Lagos State,  he kept sending money for her upkeep, ante natal and to purchase baby things for her each time she made a demand.

According to a relative of the victim, “On November 12, 2021, Joy called in from River State that she had given birth to triplets. When we received the news, everyone was so happy, especially Olorunda. She even sent us pictures of newborn triplets.

“Later she said she was coming to Lagos for the naming ceremony, and that she needed money for flight to come down to Lagos. After Olorunda sent money for flight and she said she would be coming with her mother who is taking care of her and her newborn. So, he sent another money for her mother’s flight, believing she actually gave birth.”

However,  trouble started when a mutual friend of the lovers revealed to Olorunda that it was all scam, that Joy was never pregnant, let alone giving birth to any baby.

Angered by the discovery, Olorunda reported the case to the police, who arrested the suspect.

During police interrogation, the suspect initially said the triplets died so she buried them in River State. She later revealed to the police that she did not give birth to any baby that it was a plan executed by her and her gang to extort Olorunda.

Confirming the arrest, spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the suspect had been granted bail while the investigation was ongoing.

However, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the case be diligently investigated.

Tension: As hoodlum rapes Alvan Ikoku College student

Fear has enveloped female students of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo State, over the rape of a student of the institution.

A student of the college, who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent, yesterday that a final year student of the institution (name withheld) was raped by a hoodlum about 3a.m., yesterday in Hostel F.

The victim was said to be of the Department of Political Science.

The source said the rapist had access to the victim's room through the window and threatened to stab the two females in the room if they raised alarm.

The hostel windows are said to be without burglary, while some of them are completely open.

According to the source, while the hoodlum raped the final year student, the other student out of fear, only began shouting after the departure of the rapist.

Her shout woke other students, who insisted that the hostel door must be opened.

The students, it was learned, thereafter, proceeded to the school gate chanting songs of anger and disenchantment until dawn. The victim was reportedly rushed to a hospital.

It was gathered that a first-year student of the college was raped in like manner last month.

A student said: “The students here are really suffering, this is not the first time a student would be raped in the hostel. A first-year student, whom I learned was a virgin, was raped last month. Now, another student has been raped.

“How can female students of a tertiary institution be living in hostels without burglary. Some of the windows are just open.

“The management of the college is not doing anything about it. This is wickedness. For about two months now, we struggle to get water to bath. There is also the issue of light. The Federal Government should intervene to save our lives. Nobody knows who will be the next victim.”

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the college, Tony Ololoh,  said he had no knowledge of the incident.

Gunmen attack Jos prison, trapped

The Jos Prison, on Sunday  evening came under attack as gunmen, who pretended to be on a visit to the facility engaged the officials in a shootout at the gate,  to gain access into the facility.

It would be recalled that some inmates had earlier this year escaped from the facility that is situated in the heart of Jos City and were yet to be recaptured.

The recent attack left yet to be ascertained number of persons dead and some inmates were said to have escaped, following the confusion that ensued although unconfirmed report has it that about five inmates were recaptured as they tried to escape.

This is happening in a facility that is bordered by other security outfits such as the state Police Command, State CID, headquarters of Department of State Services, DSS, Police A Division as well as the Police and prison barracks.

The gunmen engaged security agents in a shootout that lasted over an hour as passersby scampered for safety.

At press time, the vicinity has been cordoned off and the spokesman of the Jos prison did not comment on the development.

An eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said that some of the gunmen lost their lives, while some others are trapped in the prison, following the arrival to the scene of operatives of Operation Safe Haven, who surrounded the prison and its environs.

The invaders, it was gathered, seemed to have run out of bullets as the sporadic gunshots have ceased.

Meanwhile, spokesman of the prison, Mr. Francis Enobore, in a statement, said: “The Medium Security Prison in Jos, Plateau State came under attack by gunmen, who reportedly stormed the area in large number with sophisticated weapons.

“The invaders were said to have arrived at the prison about 1720hrs and immediately made for the main gate, where they engaged the armed squad personnel in a gun battle before breaking into the yard.

“Although they gained entrance into the yard, they are, however, trapped within as men from sister security services were immediately mobilized to assist the armed guards to cordon the perimeter wall and the entire area.

“Reinforcement from the response squad of the service has also been mobilized to the centre.

“The situation is presently under control as the attackers’ firing power is being subdued by the superior fire from a combined team of security agencies. Update will be made available as event unfolds.”
