...As law firm petitions LASIEC over attempt to substitute Igando vice-chairman
TWO men, Adelana Adesegun, 47, and Yusuf Olayinola, 33, who allegedly invaded the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC’s office, during last Saturday’s local government elections, were, yesterday, arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates' Court, sitting in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
The defendants were arraigned on a count charge bordering on invasion and disruption, preferred against them by the Police.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Mr. Augustine Nwabuisi, attached to State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, told the court that the defendants conducted themselves in a disorderly manner to commit the offence.
He said the incident took place on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at about 8:21pm, in the Somolu area of Lagos State.
Nwabuisi said: “The defendants conducted themselves, disorderly and invaded LASIEC's office at Somolu, Lagos State, to violently disrupt the ongoing local government elections.”
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge against them.
The defendants’ lawyer, Mr. Oluwasegun Mobee, urged the court to grant the defendants bail in the most liberal term.
Consequently, Magistrate Miss A. Akinde, after listening to the defendants’ lawyer, granted them bail in the sum of N500, 000, each with two sureties each in like sum.
Akinde, adjourned the case to September 1, 2021, for mention.
LASIEC petitioned over attempt to substitute Igando vice-chairman
Meantime, Nixon and Ace Legal firm, has petitioned LASIEC over an attempt by some forces to substitute the name of Akinyemi Akintunde, who was duly elected as the Vice-Chairman of Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, LCDA, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the just concluded council polls.
The firm urged the Chairman of LASIEC to graciously cause an investigation into the plight of Akintunde and ultimately do justice by recognising him as the validly elected Vice-Chairman Igando-Ikotun LCDA and issue him the certificate of return alongside Akinsanya Lasisi as the Chairman-elect.
In a letter to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his Deputy, Obafemi Hamzat; among others, revealed that LASIEC nomination forms were jointly filled by the party candidates and the party executives thereafter caused their names to be forwarded to LASIEC.
“It is our utmost belief that Akintunde will get justice without going through the gamut of litigation as he is prepared to seek appropriate legal redress on his mandate within the permissible lawful means at his disposal,” the solicitors stated.
