Collapsed building killed Landlord

 

A two-storey building, under construction at Number 77, Tapa Road, Oke-Ojo, Isawo in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has reportedly collapsed and trapped trapping its landlord to death.

The incident occured at 2.30p.m., while people were celebrating the Eid-el Kabir.

The deceased was identified as Pastor Daniel Obasi.

It was gathered that the collapsed building was an attachment to the main building.

His body was later recovered from the rubbles by emergency responders, and handed over to Isawo Police Division.  

Narrating what happened, a neighbour to the deceased who pleaded anonymity said workers worked till late evening on Monday.

The Police in Isawo Division have deposited the body at the morgue of the General Hospital, Ikorodu.    Confirming the incident, Lagos State Acting Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, said, “The cause of collapse was suspected to be inadequate time line to allow sandfilled land to compact properly before commencement of construction and poor building materials as attributed by neighbours.” 

Farinloye added that investigations would be conducted by relevant agencies. 

Accident claims 10 lives

Sallah day tragedy occurred in Kwara State, yesterday, as 10 persons reportedly died in a lone auto crash involving an 18-seater commercial Hiace bus.

It was gathered that the accident occurred at a location called Iyemoja in Olooru-Okolowo area of the Ilorin-Jebba expressway in the Moro Local Government Area of the state.

The state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Jonathan Owoade, who confirmed the incident, said that other victims of the crash suffered injuries.

He gave the registration number of the commercial vehicle as LND 742XK, adding that the rescue team took the injured people to Ayo Hospital, Okolowo and the state General Hospital, Ilorin.

The FRSC added that the corpses had been deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Ilorin.

He commended the officers of the Nigeria Police for assistance rendered during the incident.

Owoade also cautioned drivers against over-speeding, saying that they should obey all traffic regulations and be mindful of other road users.

Church usher commits suicide after romp with minor

AN ursher in a Pentecostal church, Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State, identified as Henry Jegbe, has reportedly committed suicide after sleeping with a minor.

Jegbe, who is popularly addressed as “Pastor,” allegedly hanged himself after he was accused of having carnal knowledge of the minor, who is his neighbour’s daughter.

The usher, who lived at Iregwa Street of the town, was found dead by his neighbours, yesterday morning.

Following the sacrilegious act, Vanguard  gathered that other occupants of the compound, where he lived, had since deserted the area.

A resident of the area, who spoke to newsmen, said: “We woke up to hear that Henry Jegbe has committed suicide by hanging himself, which attracted people in the neighbourhood.

“It’s sacrilegious for Henry Jegbe to have taken his life by hanging. The deceased was suspected to have ended his life as he could no longer bear the shame of allegedly having carnal knowledge of his neighbour’s female child (minor), which was discussed at the community level.

“Late Henry Jegbe is somebody who is not free with people as you could hardly tell who he was. We called him ‘Pastor’ because we felt he is one. But the news of him sleeping with the female child of his neighbour is what we do not understand and now he has ended his life out of shame.”

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the late Henry Jegbe hailed from one of the Esan communities in Edo State.

Meanwhile, the body of late Henry Jegbe has been deposited in a mortuary by policemen from Agbor Police Divisional Headquarters.

A police source, who spoke to newsmen said the matter was being investigated.

Police smash gang-rape syndicate

 Five suspected members of a syndicate, which specialised in  gang-raping young women, especially commercial sex workers, with the promise to pay them N30,000, have been arrested by the Police in Lagos.

The suspects, John Emmanuel,  Sadeeq Ahmed, Olamulekan Yusuf, Bafor Anaegbula and Christian Bebetu ,  would request  for friendship on facebook with ladies.  After accepting the friend request, one of the suspects would invite their targets for an outing in a hotel where he and his members would gang-rape them.

Thereafter, they would forcefully collect their victims phones, wrist watches, clothes and hand bags. The stolen items, according to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, would be sold to one of them, Christian Bebetu.

The suspects, according to Odumosu, would be charged to court.

In another development, a  55-year-old  man, Fatai Balogun,  who  allegedly defiled his neighbour’s nine-year-old daughter, was arrested, weekend.

Another 35-year-old man alleged to have defiled a seven-year-old girl was also arrested. The suspect, who simply identified himself as Sule, claimed he saw the seven year-old girl roaming the street and he took her in.

The mother of the girl was said to have traced her missing child to the suspect’s house following information by residents.

Odumosu, who confirmed the arrest, explained that “upon interrogation, the complainant said she noticed some odours and strange pains on the private part of the survivor. The survivor later revealed that the suspect had been having unlawful carnal knowledge of her.”

Loyibo condemns Tuomo attack, calls on military to be more productive

The traditional prime minister of Tuomo Kingdom in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Mike Loyibo, has condemned the attack on the military Joint Task Force, JTF, checkpoint in Tuomo community.

Loyibo, who condemned the unprovoked and dastardly attack, condoled with the military on the death of personnel and called for the deployment of more officers to Tuomo checkpoint.

He said: “I call on the military to increase the presence of more officers at Tuomo checkpoint. I also urge them to be more proactive because their job is to secure lives and property.

“All the lawlessness should be stopped, government should be hard on anyone causing trouble and breaching the peace in Tuomo Kingdom.”
