LG POLL: APC group tackles party over guidelines, screening


A group in the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State, Lagos4Lagos Movement, yesterday, faulted the guidelines released by the party for its members seeking to contest the July 24 local council election in the state.

Addressing newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja, the Principal Coordinator of the movement, Olabode Makinde, said: “Section 221 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the amended 2010 Electoral Act stipulate that the process to get political power, through legitimate and democratic means, must be done fairly and justifiably. It is only proper, therefore, for the process to be executed in an impartial way that will bring out the best among our aspirants.

“It is disturbing that the current position of the party, especially regarding fees for the nomination forms as well as the screening procedure appears to be a deliberate move to disenfranchise a majority of the interested candidates in favour of the incumbents and the anointed.”

Agemowo's residents protest poor road project in Badagry 

LANDLORDS and residents in Tori-Lovi/Agemowo community in Olorunda Local Council Area of Lagos State, has protested the poor and shabby execution of an ongoing road project in the community.  

The protesters, who claimed that in the last 30 years no government development project has been done in the community, stated that the road in question is a constituency project financed by the Federal Government.

Speaking during the protest, the Chairman of the association, Christopher Akamagwu, said: “The project is dead on arrival as the ongoing road construction is done in bad taste with low-quality materials being used for the construction. When the road is completed and an articulate vehicle begins to ply it, it will be destroyed.”

Oyo school kidnap: We can’t risk more lives in rescue efforts — Soun

Easter: FG declares Friday, Monday public holidays

THE Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6, 2026, public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebration. The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government through  a statement by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.  The minister, who congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter, urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  He reiterated that the goal of the government remained taking decisions that would bring about national rebirth, economic growth and shared prosperity.
