LASG commissions bus-terminal in Mafoluku
The commissioning of the terminal is in continuation of Sanwo-Olyu’s administration Bus Reform Initiative ( BRI) to ensure that transport system in Lagos State is moved from an unregulated frame to a regulated framework which would gradually lead to the phase-out of the old rickety bus on Lagos road to more comfortable and high capacity buses.
Speaking at the commissioning, Sanwo-Olu appreciated the management of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for their support in realizing the objective of the mini-terminal and thanked Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the contractor for the quality job done and assured Lagosians of his administration determination to take Lagos State to the next level.
According to him: “Our collaboration with the Federal Government is about what the Public-Private Partnership, PPP, can do. We commissioned the Oyingbo Bus Terminal which was destroyed during the EndSARS protest.
“Last week we commissioned the first and last mile buses to move more people from their neighbourhood. Our main aim is to move public transportation from unregulated frame work to a more regulated framework, as we commission more bus terminals.”
In his remarks, Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, said that the land for the MMIA, Mafoluku Bus terminal was provided by FAAN.
Akinajo said: “This bus terminal stands on a total area size of 7,952 square metres. It has a tarmac that can accommodate 27 High Occupancy Vehicles and a drop-off zone. We have made provision for an overhead water tank and water Treatment Plant to supply potable water to the complex, perimeter fencing (see-through), perimeter lightning, muster point and Generator House with oil compound.
“Also the services available include a repair Workshop, wash area, gatehouse, fire equipment, drains, landscaping & Horticulture and Traffic safety measures.”
Mafoluku bus terminal is one of the four bus terminals initiated by the Lagos State government in 2017 to provide quality bus infrastructure that would support the government bus reform initiative.
The bus terminal is designed to serve Mafoluku, Oshodi and Ajao-Estate environs; providing transportation services to Ikeja bus terminal, Oshodi interchange, MMA domestic wing, and other parts of Lagos with facilities such as loading bay, ticketing booths, lay bys, and drop-off area, passenger waiting area, etc.
In his interaction with pressmen, Chairman, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, Hon. Idris Bolaji Muse-Ariyoh appreciated the initiative of the Lagos State government in improving the transport system of the state to ameliorate the pains of the people and appeal to residents within the axis of Mafoluku to make good use of the terminal.
