How NAF personnel death caused pandemonium
It was gathered that a team of OP MESSA, a joint internal security operational platform made up of the Army, Navy and Air Force, stormed the park to meet with its leader, as part of an investigation into the murder of an Air Force personnel, Monday night.
There were different accounts as to how the deceased Airman whose identity could not be ascertained was killed.
A version of the account said the Non-Commissioned Officer, who was in mufti, boarded a commercial bus from Oshodi to Ikorodu, Monday night.
A verbal confrontation between some passengers and bus owners at the park reportedly ensued before they embarked on the journey. In the personnel’s bid to calm the situation, he was said to have been beaten to death.
Another version of the account had it that the deceased was intercepted by some hoodlums, who were dispossessing commuters of their valuables. In his bid to resist them, he was overpowered, bound and had life snuffed out of him. Thereafter, his assailants dumped his body close to the footbridge.
His body was said to have been evacuated to a public morgue on Tuesday by some government officials, who were alerted.
Meanwhile, back at the Base, apprehension set in, Tuesday, when family members of the deceased called to inform that he did not return home the previous day. Efforts to reach him on his mobile telephone proved abortive
His colleagues were said to have visited the deceased's last port of call at Oshodi, only to be informed about the corpse that was evacuated to the mortuary. On reaching the mortuary, they discovered it was their missing colleague and subsequently transferred the corpse to an Air Force morgue.
The presence of OP MESSA’s team, yesterday, sent fear down the spines of commercial bus operators and members of the National Union of Road Transport Union Workers, NURTW, who assumed the team had come to effect the arrest of their leader.
The union members reportedly went on the rampage, destroying vehicles while hoodlums hijacked the opportunity to dispossess people of their valuables.
Traders at Mosafejo and adjourning area of Oshodi, who were observing the weekly environmental sanitation, were forced to leave their shops. Text messages and calls were placed to loved ones to avoid Oshodi. Commercial vehicles hurriedly made u-turns and avoided that route, leaving commuters stranded.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson, Logistics Command, Nigerian Air Force, Flight Lieutenant Ologun, failed as her phone rang severally without response. But sources at the command confirmed that one of their NCOs was murdered and that investigation had commenced to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
But the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said: “The Lagos State Police Command is aware of the conflict that occurred at Cappa Park/Mosafejo Oshodi, Lagos today (yesterday), May 20, 2021, at about 7 am. Normalcy has been restored to the area, as the matter is under investigation.
At press time, some shops were still under lock and keys apparently out of fear, while others were opened for business. There was also a Police presence in the area.
4th wife stabs husband to death for impregnating another woman
A 47-year-old woman, Olanshile Nasirudeen, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her 51-year–old husband, Jimoh Nasirudeen, to death for impregnating another woman.
The command Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed this, yesterday, in Abeokuta, said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the DPO, Obalende Divisional Headquarters, Ijebu Ode, that the suspect, who is a co butcher with the deceased, sighted a woman who her husband recently impregnated at the abattoir and she started questioning the woman about her audacity to get pregnant for her husband.
Oyeyemi said: “That led to a hot argument between her and the deceased, as a result of which the suspect picked a knife and stabbed the deceased at the back joint of his left leg, thereby, cutting one of his veins.
“He was rushed to a nearby hospital for first aid and later transferred to Ijebu Ode General Hospital where he eventually died while receiving treatment, due to excessive bleeding.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO, Obalende division, SP Murphy Salami, led his men to the scene, but the suspect had taken to flight before their arrival.
“She was traced and eventually arrested in her hideout at Mobalufon area of Ijebu Ode.
“On interrogation, the suspect, who happened to be the fourth wife of the deceased, claimed that it was her husband who first slapped her simply because she asked his new wife her mission at her market stand.
“The corpse of the deceased had been released to the family for burial under Islamic rites after the autopsy has been conducted on it.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Bandits kill Emir’s eldest son, others in Kontagora
The ancient city of Kontagora, headquarters of Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State was, yesterday, thrown into confusion as bandits reportedly killed the son of the Emir, Alhaji Bashar Saidu Namaska, on his father’s farm.
The late Bashar reportedly visited the father’s farm at Masuga village close to Kontagora town when he was gunned down by the bandits.
The deceased, who is the Sardauna of Kontagora, had been holding forth for his father, Sarkin Sudan, Alhaji Saidu Namaska, who had been sick for sometime.
Besides the death of the Emir’s son, some people working on the farm were also said to have been killed by the bandits, who also rustled an unspecified number of cows from the farm.
It was also gathered that the bandits also flagged down both commercial and private vehicles plying the road, collected their phones, money and other valuables.
An eyewitness revealed that those without cash on them were reportedly beaten by the bandits who abducted several others to an unknown place.
An impeccable source and top government official, who confirmed the incident, said: “It is true that bandits invaded Kontagora town and shot several people and killed the Emir’s son, Alhaji Bashar.
“His death will be formerly announced today (yesterday)and also buried immediately.
“He was rushed to the hospital immediately he was shot but confirmed dead immediately he got to the hospital.”
2 feared dead as gas explosion rocks Obasanjo Presidential Library
No fewer than two persons were, yesterday morning, killed as a gas explosion rocked the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The explosion, according to findings, occurred around 11:am at the Marcque Event Centre within the Presidential Library when technicians were topping up gas into the air conditioner.
It was gathered that two persons have already been confirmed dead.
Security guards at the gate turned visitors back, as only the truck of the state Fire Service and some officials were allowed into the premises.
It would be recalled that a similar incident had occurred on Tuesday, when two people died in a gas explosion at the Conference Hotel on Presidential Boulevard, Abeokuta, owned by Chief Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of the state/
Truck crushes 3 relatives in Ondo

Three relatives riding on a motorcycle were crushed to death by a truck, yesterday, along the Akure/Idanre area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.
It was gathered that the driver of the truck while on top speed rammed into the motorcycle, popularly called Okada, killing the three relatives on the spot.
Consequently, irate youths, sympathisers and residents in the area mobilised and set the truck ablaze as they accused the driver of causing the untimely death of the three persons
The driver of the truck escaped by whiskers as the timely arrival of police detectives at the scene of the incident saved him from the irate Okada riders.
The police detectives reportedly whisked him away and pleaded with the Okada riders that he would be prosecuted in court.
Contacted, the image-maker of the Ondo Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abiola Fadumo, confirmed the accident.
Fadumo said the timely intervention of the security agencies saved the situation from degenerating into a bloody protest.
He noted that the situation had been put under control by the police.
4-yr -old girl crushed during campaign for LG poll
Also yesterday, a four year old girl was crushed to death by a Toyota Matrix car in Oja Jagun area of Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It was gathered that the car being used for campaign by one of the political parties ahead of the local government election fixed for Saturday had a brake failure.
The car was said to have skidded off the road and rammed into the little girl, who was standing by the roadside.
While a report claimed the girl was crushed by a car on the convoy of Governor Seyi Makinde, the governor denied it, saying it was fake news.
Governor Makinde through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, expressed his condolence to the family of the deceased child, saying contrary to the unverified news story alleging the killing of the child by a vehicle in the convoy of the Oyo State governor, the girl was killed by a Toyota Matrix car.
According to the governor’s aide, the vehicle was said to have lost control after its front tyres burst while in motion, close to the venue of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally.
He maintained that it is common knowledge that Toyota Matrix vehicles were not part of any governor’s convoy in Nigeria, saying: “While we await further details on the identity of the driver of the ill-fated car from security agencies, the people of Ogbomoso should remain calm and rest assured that the government will get to the roots of this matter.”
